The European Election Studies (EES) are about electoral participation and voting behaviour in European Parliament elections, and include topics such as the evolution of a political community and public sphere in the European Union, citizens' perceptions of and preferences about the EU political regime, and the evaluation of its political performance. They offer wide opportunities for comparative and longitudinal analyses across the EU member states.

The EES is run under the responsibility of the international European Election Research Group constituted by a group of political and social scientist from different academic institutions all over Europe.

Although the EES refers mainly to voter surveys conducted since 1979, the EES program comprises also political elite surveys, media studies and the Euromanifestos project (EES homepage). Until 1994 the corresponding question modules of the voter survey were part of the European Commission's Eurobarometer surveys at the time. Starting with the 1999 elections, the European Election Studies are continued under separate cover, but sustaining a large part of the established questions.

Studies administered by EES International Research Group

Concurrently to the regular European Election Studies, other survey programs about the elections to the European Parliament are carried out. These co-existing surveys include the “European Elections” series of Eurobarometer, which in each round cover distinctive political topics in the EU, the EU Profiler, Elite studies, and other.
