EFFEKTIV!
For Greater Family Friendliness in German Higher Education Institutions
eFFektiv! Für mehr Familienfreundlichkeit an deutschen Hochschulen
project duration: 01.03.2011 - 28.02.2014
project team: Dr. Inken Lind, Jana Girlich, Dr. Susann Kunadt, Lucill Simak, Wei Shen (WTS), David Brodesser
The goal of the three-year plan is to build up a consultation and information offering for universities based on scientific knowledge to be implemented as an online portal. Differentiated according to target groups, effective measures for promoting family friendliness at German universities at different action levels should be presented.
The knowledge creation comprises a meta-analysis of national and international studies on the effectiveness of family friendly measures as well as other parallelized surveys.
Survey A – Scientific Personnel (Sample of 3-5 Universities)
- Quantitative Approach: complete survey of scientific personnel; survey of effects of family friendly measures
- Qualitative Approach: effects of measures on the conduct practices and implicit beliefs of university directors and decision makers; supplemented with elements of sociological organizational analyses.
Survey B - Students (conducted by the HIS-Institute for Research on Higher Education (HIS-Institut für Hochschulforschung, HIS-HF))
- Online questionnaire based on the HISBUS – Panels; survey of the effects of family friendly measures
The results of the scientific analyses are summarized in a multi-dimensional action compendium documenting both the effectiveness of measures as well as best-practice examples. This is published in the online portal where current information, dates and (consulting) offers are made readily available to users.
