INTEGER

Institutional Transformation for Effecting Gender Equality in Research

project duration: 01.03.2011-28.02.2015

project team: Anke Lipinsky; Dr. Andrea Löther; Verena Eickhoff

The goal of the INTEGER project is to advance gender equality in higher education and research institutions and improve the career progression of women researchers through sustainable institutional transformation. The international consortium seeks to implement structural change and is comprised of Siauliai University in Lithuania, Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland and Centre National pour la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), France, with the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology from Great Britain fulfilling the role of coordinator and external gender expert, while GESIS' Center of Excellence Women and Science (CEWS) will bring its substantial experience in the evaluation of gender equality measures to bear in acting as external evaluator of the actions for transformational change.

Over the course of four years each partner will develop and implement tailor made transformation action plans for two local units and the organization as a whole, taking into account the specific local, institutional and national circumstances. The measures will target four levels: empowerment of decision makers, organizational structure, career progression and work life balance.
INTEGER fuses a well thought-out management approach with institutional and local management teams, partnership groups, senior management and an external group of experts. Regular meetings and reporting are meant to foster direct and productive communication and cooperation between the different institutional levels, ensure the partners’ commitment to INTEGER's objectives and guarantee outstanding implementation of the action plans for transformation. Exchange of experience, mutual learning and capacities building will be advanced by seminars, close collaboration of the partners and the formative and summative evaluation to be carried out by CEWS. The INTEGER consortium will develop good practice guidelines based on the INTEGER experience and its approved measures and assessed effects in an effort to increase sustainability and support other institutions aiming for institutional transformation in support of gender equality.
