Age data in ALLBUS 2008 revised using proper data on the month of the interview. New data constructed for variables V154, V155, V251, V252, V294 and V295.

06.05.2008: Cumulation 1980-2006
Household-level East-West-weights now available for all relevant ALLBUS surveys.

Variables V1248 (household-level East-West-weight) and V1249 (combined East-West weight and transformation to household-level) in the data set for ALLBUS Cumulation 1980-2006 (Full version ZA No. 4241/4243, ALLBUScompact ZA No. 4242/4244) now also contain the weighting factors for 1991 and 1992. With this addition household-level weights are now available for all ALLBUS surveys concerned.

Big Five Model of personality traits

A note regarding the short version of the Big Five Model of personality traits surveyed as part of ALLBUS 2004 and ALLBUS 2006 was added to the data handbooks. The study profiles were amended accordingly. In both surveys, the five dimensions of personality (extraversion,  agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness to experience) were measured by two items each.

The following variables are concerned:

ALLBUS 2004: V779-V788 and V858-V867

ALLBUS 2006: V608-V617 and V683-V692

For six variables of the ALLBUS 2006 data file an error regarding the matching of question texts and data was corrected.

29.03.2007: ALLBUS 2004 - new transformation weight

A new transformation weight for analyses of household data has been added to the ALLBUS 2004 data set. This weight transforms the sample of individuals into a household sample so that methodologically correct analyses on household-level can be performed with ALLBUS 2004 data.
Moreover, to make it easier for users to interpret the data, the new data handbook now features weighted frequency counts. The weighting adjusts for the oversample of East German respondents so that the overall marginals are now directly interpretable as representative of total Germany. Unweighted frequency counts are provided in a separate supplement file.

The coding of the Administrative-District-Variable has been corrected and standardized

The correction and standardization of the Administrative-District-Variable affected only the codes for administrative districts in the area of the new federal states and Berlin. The recoding mostly concerns ALLBUS 2002.

SPSS-labels revised (in particular regarding the topic of division of household work)

In the ISSP 2002 (Family III), the value labels of variables V658 to V663 (division of household work) have been changed. The following SPSS-syntax can be used to implemement the changes:

Politische Gemeindegrößenklasse und BIK-Gemeindetyp

Diese Fußnote bezieht sich auf die Variablen V719 und V720.


Die politische Gemeindegröße (V719) beinhaltet für die jeweiligen Wohnorte der Befragten klassifizierte Größenangaben. Unklassifizierte Größenangaben sind aus Datenschutzgründen nicht möglich. Ausgangspunkt für diese Größenangaben sind jeweils die Größen der Gemeinden als politische Verwaltungseinheiten. Da die politische Gemeindegröße nicht immer aussagekräftig für eine wirkliche Charakteristik des Wohnorts ist (z.B. im Randgebiet einer Großstadt), wurden ergänzende Klassifikationen entwickelt.

Mit der ab 2002 im ALLBUS-Programm enthaltenen Aktualisierung 2000 legte das BIK-Institut Aschpurwis + Behrens eine erneut überarbeitete Regionssystematik vor (BIK-Regionen, V720), die erstmals auf einer für Ost- und Westdeutschland einheitlichen Datenbasis aufbaut. Wie beim Boustedt-Gemeindetyp bezieht sich die Zuordnung u.a. auf die Einwohnerzahl in einem Ballungsgebiet. Bei den BIK-Regionen wird ferner der Einzugsbereich um einen urbanen Kern aufgrund der Quote von Pendlern, welche aus dem Umland in den Kern einpendeln, bestimmt. Weiterhin werden vier Regionstypen unterschieden: Kernbereich, Verdichtungsbereich, Übergangsbereich und peripherer Bereich. Die Einzugsbereiche von großen Städten werden damit nun bis hinab zu Unterzentren gemeindescharf abgebildet. Bei Gemeinden außerhalb der BIK-Regionen erfolgt im ALLBUS die Zuordnung entsprechend ihrer politischen Gemeindegrößenklasse.
