Life in the GDR and Eastern Germany 1990 - 1998
With "Life in the GDR/Eastern Germany" a representative series of studies on
subjective states of mind was started in 1990 and continued until 1998 in Eastern
Germany. In 1990 and 1991 the Life study was carried out by the
Academy of Sciences of
the GDR, Institute for Sociology and Social Policy (ISS),
Berlin. After 1991
the study was carried on by the Empirical-Methodological Working Group at
the Social Science Research Institute
Berlin- Brandenburg (SFZ).
The thematic survey programme of this series of investigation is oriented towards
the central areas of peoples life: preservation of the natural world, delivery of social
security, leisure, work, health, family, life with children, qualifications and further
education, housing, wages.
