The IAB regional sample 1975-1997 (ZA no. 3348)

The regional sample 1975-1997 (study description) is available since 1999 and can seen as a regional version of the IAB employees sample 1975-1995. Moreover, it is an update of the regional file (ZA no. 2842) available since March 1997, which records data with the district identification code as a regional unit from 1975 to 1990.

In the context of the DFG ('German Research Foundation') research project "Regional adjustment processes in the Federal Republic of Germany with special regard to the geographic mobility of employees", the anonymisation of the regional sample 1975-1997 was made possible by the chair of economics of Prof. Dr. Joachim Möller (University of Regensburg) and also by DFG co-financing.

For the circulation of the database it is necessary to file an allocation application for a concrete, time-limited project to the GESIS Central Archive.

  • The applicant has to hand in a project application with a two-sided project description to the GESIS-ZA, in which project title, duration and staff have to be specified. On the basis of this project description the IAB decides on the data allocation. The GESIS-ZA concludes an agreement with the data recipient.

The IAB employees sample 1975-1995 (ZA no. 3136)

The employees sample 1975-1995 (study description) comprises information on one percent of all employees subject to social insurance contribution for a period of 21 years, which the BA has stored in a file (history file) since the commencement of the registration procedure. Benefit receiving periods (e.g. of unemployment benefit) and business information were added to the sample, which contains precise daily information on the course of the employment history subject to social insurance contribution and of the benefit receiving.

It can be seen as an update of the IAB employees sample 1975-1990 (basic file), which has been available since February 1996 (ZA no. 2640).

In the context of the DFG ('German Research Foundation') research project "Division or exclusion? Labour market segmentations and fluctuations in East and West Germany", the anonymisation of the IAB employees sample 1975-1995 was made possible by the chair of general sociology of Prof. Dr. Peter A. Berger (University of Rostock) and also by DFG co-financing.
