Childhood, adolescence and becoming an adult
1991-1997 (CAA 2004)
|
Free online analysis and data download
are available via the
ZACAT platform.
The bilingual version of “Childhood, adolescence and becoming an adult” is
also available on CD-ROM. The CD was developed
in a cooperation project of the
University
of Jena’s Department of Developmental Psychology and the Central Archive,
Cologne.
The content of the CD-ROM is divided
into two major parts:
-
An
HTML working context for quick retrieval of all “static” study and
variable information including complete translations of all original
questionnaires and
-
the databank system “ZA
CodebookExplorer” for interactive research on the studies, variables and
scale details as well as for preliminary analyses.
Studies on the CD-ROM
The data was gathered by a multi-centre research consortium with the
universities of Bamberg (Prof. Dr. L. A. Vaskovics), Jena (Prof. Dr. R. K.
Silbereisen) and Siegen (Prof. Dr. J. Zinnecker) participating. The studies were started shortly after the
"Wende" (social unification) in 1991 and continued until 1997 and
investigate the social and personality development in early youth (from 10
years) up to early adult age (above 30 years).

Cross-Section 1996
(ZA no. 3434)
|
|
The studies were conceived as
longitudinal sections and cross sections.
With its (in two-thirds) literally identical questionnaire the '96 cross
section is a direct repeat of the cross section 91 (Youth '92 by the youth
department of the Deutsche Schell AG). At the same time the "Cross section
1991" marks the beginning of the two longitudinal sections "Adolescents" and
"Young adults".

ZA CodebookExplorer
Complex searches and
first analyses are supported through the integration of the data and
documents in the ZA CodebookExplorer programme. This programme supports the
presentation of meta-information at study and variable level in an easily
accessible form. Explorer menus are available to
the user within which the variables are grouped according to content and
methodological aspects.

The Explorer menu “Studies” gives an
overview of all variables included in the four longitudinal and
cross-sectional studies. Users who are interested in an exact comparison of
the wording of question and answer texts are
supported by the tool "Doubled Variable Window". In this bilingual database
the tool also enables the comparison of the translated version of the
question text with the original German wording.
The following article gives a general overview of the data stock and the
use of the ZA CodebookExplorer:
