GESIS Methods Seminar
Research methods, database management, descriptive statistics, and multivariate dependency analysis
The training courses of the GESIS Methods Seminar (since 1980 known as the “ZHSF autumn seminar”) are structured in modules, i.e. self-contained units which follow on from one another. The modules of the methods seminars are offered partly via e-learning and partly on site at GESIS Cologne.
Basic modules teach the methodological foundations for historical social research (research methods, database management, descriptive statistics). No previous knowledge is required to attend these.
The advanced training modules teach the theory and application of multiple regression as well as related methods of the general linear model for metric and discrete dependent variables. The knowledge gained will be deepened in the afternoons by means of exercises in the computer pool under the guidance of a tutor. Participation in the advanced training modules requires sound basic knowledge in the field of bivariate data analysis.
