was founded in 1991 as a research center of the Sociological Association
of the Ukraine and transformed into a private joint venture in 1992. |

KIIS
is a private Ukrainian-American venture for Social Surveys and Marketing
Research. KIIS is housed by the National University of the Kiev-Mohyla
Academy (Kiev, Ukraine). The partner of KIIS in the USA is Paragon
Research International. KIIS consists of a small permanent scientific and
administrative staff, as well as temporary research groups, formed
whenever there is a need. It has twenty interviewer teams, about 300
people in total, who work under contract with KIIS in all regions of
Ukraine ( 24 oblasts and the Crimea). |

The Institute's survey network allows it to conduct random sample survey representative both of Ukraine, as a whole, and of its separate regions. The scope of studies which are typically conducted by KIIS includes: face-to-face interviewing; telephone surveys; mail surveys; focus-groups; expert interviewing; in-depth interviewing. The scope of studies which are typically conducted by KIIS includes: face-to-face interviewing; telephone surveys; mail surveys; focus-groups; expert interviewing; in-depth interviewing; surveys with self-administrated questionnaires; retail audits. Research: KIIS carries out its own scientific research and survey on the following issues: the relationship between social structure and personality under conditions of radical social change; problems of poverty in Ukraine; employment in Ukraine; political orientations of the Ukrainian population; social problems of mines closing; social aspects of ecological problems; monitoring of the socio-structural and socio-cultural parameters of the Ukrainian population; mathematical modelling of macro-social changes. KIIS has been also developing specialized software for analysis of sociological data. There are some examples of the information that is available from the KIIS database and can be analysed on customer's request: differentiation of household incomes, expenditures, and real consumption in the Ukraine in terms of regions, settlement type, social and ethnic groups, etc.; social and demographic characteristics of the population, including those not available from the official statistics, e.g. distribution of the population by family types, by occupation (including unregistered employment), by lingo-ethnic groups, etc.; social, economical, and political orientations of the population (attitude toward market reforms, main types of private property, private entrepreneurship, authorities, political parties and leaders, etc.); the state of inter-ethnic relations (e.g. the level of xenophobia, particularly anti-Semitism, among the main ethnic groups in the Ukraine). There are some topics of the studies which are associated with advertising: evaluation and selection of the most effective commercials and other advertising materials among the samples presented; assessment of the popularity and efficiency of advertising; analysis of the popularity of TV and radio channels and printed media; characterization of the audience and its needs, selection of the most effective time for radio and TV commercials. |
