Literature & Research Information

The services offered by the GESIS-IZ are based primarily on descriptions of research activities and literature from the social sciences. This information is made readily available to interested parties both here and abroad in the form of various electronic media from the following databases:

SOLIS  is a bibliographic database with abstracts covering social science literature, which has been published in the Federal Republic of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The SOFIS database offers descriptions of social science research projects carried out in the Federal Republic of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A central web survey on research projects in Germany is one way in which the information for SOFIS is collected. A portion of SOFIS, namely project descriptions from the past three years, can be searched directly via a special search form.

SOLIS and SOFIS are both available via the hosts STN International or GBI, and are offered together in a comprehensive CD-ROM edition (CD-ROM wiso) resp. in the GBI wiso-net.

The database SOFO allows the user to conduct a differentiated search for social science research institutions in Germany.

The databases Eastern European social sciences offer English language information on social science research projects and institutions in Eastern and East-Central Europe.

Important information on social science journals in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, which are screened for input into the database SOLIS on a regular basis, can be retrieved using a search form. Profile descriptions on social science journals from Eastern Europe are offered with topical emphases and detailed information on publishers.
