The Thesaurus for the Social Sciences (Thesaurus Sozialwissenschaften) is a crucial instrument for the content-oriented search by keywords in SOFIS, SOLIS, and PROEastE. The expanded edition of the former GESIS-IZ list of keywords contains about 11,100 entries, of which more than 7,400 are descriptors (authorised keywords) and about 3,700 non-descriptors. Topics in all of the social science disciplines are included.

Thesaurus Sozialwissenschaften / Thesaurus for the Social Sciences
Volume 1: German - English- Russian
Volume 2: Russian - German - English
Volume 3: Index
Prep. by Swetlana Basarnova, Helen Magaj, Robert Mdivani, Hannelore Schott and Dagmar Sucker
Bonn, Moskau: GESIS-IZ, Institut für wissenschaftliche Information in den Gesellschaftswissenschaften (INION RAdW) 1997
ISBN 3-8206-0097-3
64,-- EUR
This version of the GESIS-IZ Thesaurus is the result of a joint project carried out over a number of years by the GESIS-IZ and INION RAdW (Moscow) under the direction of Annemarie Nase (GESIS-IZ) and Robert Mdivani (INION RAdW). The aim was to overcome the linguistic barriers to efficient searches in German and Russian databases, and to further the exchange of information between the East and the West. The GESIS-IZ-Thesaurus was translated into Russian; thereafter, the Russian topics terms in the social-science-relevant databases of INION - ECON (economics and demography), HISTORY (history, ethnography, archaeology), PHILOS (philosophy and sociology) as well as STATE and LAW (jurisprudence and political science) - were investigated and expanded for searches.

Multilingual Dictionary Demography
English, German, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian and Russian

Edited by Steffi Bliedung und Gerhard J. A. Riesthuis
Bonn: Informationszentrum Sozialwissenschaften 1995, 224 pp.
ISBN 3-8206-0103-1
14,-- EUR

Like almost no other social science discipline, demography is able to analyse changes in society both qualitatively and quantitatively and to produce valuable data for further special analyses. Therefore, demography is of great importance to the study of the transformation and integration processes. The multi-lingual dictionary is intended to allow the standard and clear use of the concepts and thereby to foster the understanding between the demographers of Eastern and Western Europe.
