Knowledge Technologies for the Social Sciences

The GESIS departement "Knowledge Technologies for the Social Sciences" (WTS) is focused on advancing and improving digital services for the Social Sciences on the basis of novel knowledge technologies. To ensure a high quality of GESIS services WTS is carrying out research in applied Computer Science, in particular in the fields Web Science, Semantic Web, Linked Open Data and Information Retrieval.

The department is currently focussed on the following areas:

  • scholarly information portals for the Social Science community (sowiport, SSOAR, da|ra, MISSY, Effektiv!, DFG-Instrumentenkasten, CEWS-Transfer)
  • tools for questionnaire development and research data archiving (QDDS)
  • linking heterogenous types of information of data, such as publications and research data (InFoLis)
  • science model driven, domain-specific retrieval services to enhance retrieval quality (IRM, IRM II)
  • linking GESIS data to external data sources on the Web (LOD)
  • developing novel Web 2.0 dialog models  to enhance eGovernment and eDemocracy (WeGov)
  • supporting the scientific community by Web 2.0 services (ScholarLib, SocioWiki)
  • digital services for analysing the Social Sciences (MoBi).
