The association GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences

GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences is legally registered as a non-profit association organized into the following bodies:

  • The board of trustees acts as the association’s supervisory body. The board advises and oversees the president, approves the program budget and long-term planning, appoints the president, the scientific department heads, the administrative director and the scientific advisory board, approves the annual accounts and discharge the president.
  • Various committees help us to intensively integrate our users into the design and development of our services. Following the merging of the institutes GESIS set up a scientific advisory board in November, 2007, and in spring 2008 a user advisory board to assist and consult the institute in executing its tasks.
  • The general meeting of members is currently comprised of 59 university and social science professional associations, thus demonstrating GESIS’ close connection to its users and their structural affiliation.
  • The President is the acting executive for all association related legal purposes, directing and representing the association and conducting its business.

Our mission statement details our values, objectives and guiding principles.

GESIS is bound to the rules of good scientific practice and has set itself guidelines (135 KB) (135 KB). The board of trustees has accordingly appointed an ombudsperson to whom you may direct any queries: Prof. Dr. Hermann Saterdag.
