The President of GESIS
Prof. Dr. York Sure-Vetter is President of GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences and Full Professor for Applied Informatics for the Social Sciences at the Institute for Web Science and Technologies (WeST) at the University of Koblenz-Landau, Campus Koblenz.
York Sure-Vetter joined GESIS in May 2009 as Scientific Director of the department Knowledge Technologies for the Social Sciences and became Acting President in December 2009. Before he came to GESIS he was working at SAP AG as Senior Researcher and Technical Lead of the German lighthouse project Theseus-Texo. His further positions include Assistant Professor at University of Karlsruhe (TH), Visiting Assistant Professor at Stanford University and Visiting Professor at University of Mannheim.

Professor Sure-Vetter acted among others as Co-Programme Chair of the Semantic Web Track of the 19th International World Wide Web Conference (WWW2010) and as Programme Chair of the 3rd European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC2006).

2001: Dr. Wolfgang Heilmann Award for Humane Usage of Information Technology, first prize of the Integrata foundation (Tübingen, Germany) awarded to the research group "Knowledge Management" (together with R. Studer, M. Erdmann, A. Mädche, H. Oppermann, H.-P. Schnurr, S. Staab, C. Tempich)
