* collects, processes, develops and disseminates information concerning
movable and immovable cultural heritage, theatre performances, cultural
institutions, bibliographic records and cultural events;
* maintains the national databases and other computerised cultural

* develops tools for the collections documentation (artefacts description
rules, data standards, terminological thesauri, authority files, software etc.);
* provides consulting, Internet services and technical assistance for
museums, libraries and other cultural institutions

Year of foundation: 1992
Historical development: The foundation was set up by a group of
scholars and researchers of the European Cultural Center in Bucharest affiliated
to the European Cultural Center in Geneva. In 1993-1997, besides the main
universities and research institutes from the countries of the Black Sea area,
experts from the European Union, UNESCO, EDI - World Bank, Columbia University -
USA, the Foundation for International Training - Canada, University of Alabama -
USA, Washington State University- USA, Tokai University - Japan, London Schools
of Economics, Institute for European and International Studies - Luxembourg and
many others have participated in course offerings. In cooperation with Ovidius
University, Constanza, BSUF initiated the creation of the Black Sea University
Network.

Historical development: The National Institute of Statistic and
Economic Studies was established on the Decree no. 27, December 30, 1989.
