Historical development: The Institute was established in 1947 under
the Academy of Sciences of the Estonian SSR and merged with Tallinn Technical
University in 1997 as an independent research institute.

Research topics:
* social development and social policy in Estonia in transition;
* adaptation of Estonian economy to integration processes in Europe;
* formation of market mechanisms and institutions;
* economic problems related to the use of local natural resources and
development of the fuel-energy complex.

* Modelling and socio-economic evaluation of the sustainable utilisation of
