History: Founded in 1946 within the Slovak Academy of Sciences and
Arts, continuing within the Slovak Academy of Sciences in 1953, 1975-1990
Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, re-established in 1990. In the 90es new

Research fields: Logic and methodology of science social and political
philosophy phenomenology history of thought (philosophical and political) in
Slovakia.
Research projects:
* Culture as Dimension of Social Order. (Duration:
1999-2001, Head: Franti[sinvcircumflex]ek Novosad.
The project focuses on the analysis of integrative force of norms and value
systems in society and their relation to the pragmatic and utilitarian moments
of social life. The emphasis will be given on the interpretative capacity
present in the classical philosophy, particularly in work of I. Kant and G. W.
F. Hegel.
* The Development of Logic and Methodology of Sciences in Slovakia after
1918. (Duration: 2000-2002, Head: Pavel Cmorej.
The core of this research project is to review the development of logic and
methodology of sciences after 1918 in Slovakia with emphasis upon the factual
and critical expositions of problems which were the objects of logical and
methodological analyses.
* Philosophical and Methodological Foundations of Scientific Knowledge.
(Duration: 2000-2002, Head: Jan Dubnička)
The project focuses on the research of ontological, epistemological and
methodological foundations of contemporary structures of scientific knowledge,
their new conceptual apparatuses and principles.
* Jan Patočka, His Predecessors and Heirs. (Duration:
2000-2002; Head: Jozef Sivak) Research focused on phenomenology in
Czechoslovakia in its Czech and German linguistic versions.
* Currents of Thought and Traditions in 19th and 20th
Century Slovakia. (Duration: 2001-2003; Head: Tibor Pichler)
The project aims at contributing to the knowledge of the character of social
and political ideas in Slovakia, to the knowledge of style, forms and
constitutive elements of the ideological thought in 19th and 20th
centuries.

a wide range of areas: metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, history of philosophy,
social and political philosophy, philosophy of mind; published 10 times a year;
abstracts and contents in English; articles in Slovak, Czech and English;
founded in 1946, many times renamed.
* Organon F (Editor-in-Chief Pavel Cmorej) is a journal for analytic
philosophy, ontology, epistemology, logic, philosophy of language, philosophy of
natural and social sciences; quarterly, abstracts and contents in English,
articles in Slovak, Czech and English; founded 1994.
