Historical development: Institute of Europe was founded as a Department
of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Kaunas University of Technology
Main fields: Academic research and support of institutional
collaboration and integration into EU networks by disseminating knowledge and
information regarding the economic, legal, scientific-technological and
socio-political changes taking place in the European Union and its implications
for Lithuania's integration into European structures.
Research topics:
. Industry and business changes: in the context of the integration into
Europe;
. legal and political integration of Europe: the relations between the EU and
Lithuania in the preaccession period (activities of Lithuania in the sphere of
international relations and organisations);
. higher education, research and technology development in Europe;
. development of Lithuania's regional economy: under the conditions of
integration into the European Union
. management of European programs and projects.

Teaching: The Institute aims to educate qualified specialists in
different fields enabling them to understand the principles and tendencies of
European integration, to fulfil important tasks and jobs in the process of
Lithuania's accession to the European Union.
Events: The Institute organised the following conferences: "First Year
of the EU - Lithuania Negotiations" (April 6, 2001); "The EU Assistance for
Lithuania in the Pre-Accession Period" (May 25, 2000).
Co-operations: Institute participates in activities of European Studies'
