Research: During the last decade of economic and social change the
Sociology department has carried out research in different fields such as
environment, consumption society, health and primary health care, sociology of
crime and criminal justice, family and gender relations, nationalism and ethnic
groups.
Research topics:
* Social Processes in Lithuania and Youth Identity (in 1998 funded by
Lithuanian Fund of Sciences and Research);
* Environment for Everybody (in 1998 Open Society Fund, Lithuania);
* Kaunas. Ecological Consciousness of the Population in Kaunas City.
Co-project with Kaunas Municipality Local Agenda 21 - (in 1998-1999
PHARE/TACIS);
* Environmental and Social Processes in Lithuania and Sweden (in 1998-99,
Swedish Institute);
* Municipality Reconstruction of Primary Health Care and Hospitals:
Sociological Survey 1999-2000. Co-project with Kaunas (World Bank);
* Waste Management Strategies: Sociological Survey 1999-2001 (REC CO for East
and Central Europe);
* Mortality Causes and Sociodemographic Differences under the Rapidly
Changing Social Environment and the Transformation of Health Care Services
2000-2002; (Lithuanian Fund of Sciences and Research);
* Early Implementation of EU Strategy on Consumer Policy and Health
Protection 2001 (REC CO for East and Central Europe);
* Experts as Agents in Public Policy- Making: Criminological Knowledge and a
Case Study of Juvenile Justice Reform in Lithuania (2001, Open Society Fund,
Lithuania);
* The Social Context of Gender Based Violence Against Women in Lithuanian
Family (2001, Nordic Council of Ministers).
Teaching: In 1995 the Sociology Department established a system of
study based on three levels: bachelor, master and doctoral studies.
