Newsletter - Social Science in Eastern Europe 2002 - 4
EDITORIAL ON SPECIAL EDITION: "IDENTITIES IN EASTERN EUROPE"
Dear readers,
At the end of 2002 we enter virgin soil with number 4 of our Newsletter: The
present issue is topic-oriented and devoted to "identity research" in
Eastern Europe. The innovation is that we have not - as our common practice was
before - put to the fore descriptions of institutions, but we have focused on
research work on the topic of "identity" conducted by Eastern European
social science institutions. We would like to thank Professor Niedermüller from
the Institute of European Ethnology at the Humboldt University of Berlin for his
introductory remarks, thus giving us access to the topic.
To provide you with a relevant overview, we have compiled research projects
on this subject, which we either found in own databank ProEastE (research
projects from Eastern Europe), got from Eastern European colleagues or
investigated in the Internet. The rubric "Scientific Institutions"
gives addresses to facilitate the establishment of contacts with those research
institutions. Here you can also find institutes that were active in this field
or still are, but from which we do not have up-to-date information on present
research projects.
The rubric "Conferences" is restricted to conferences dealing with
the aforementioned topic. Current announcements of conferences on this and other
Europe-related social science subjects can be found in the IZ conference
calendar on our homepages: http://www.gesis.org/Veranstaltungen/Transformationsforschung/Index.htm
or http://www.gesis.org/Veranstaltungen/National_International/Index.htm.
For the future, we plan the publication of a topic-oriented Newsletter once a
year, and, dear readers, we would like to invite you to send us your tips,
comments and suggestions.
Another piece of news from us: a new e-mail service has started in October
2002. Once a month, this "Mailing Service Eastern Europe - Social Science
News" shall, in a structured form, inform all interested social scientists
about activities of the German and international social science community. After
consultation with Eastern European cognoscenti, this service will mainly
communiate such information which cannot be systematically collected in the
databanks and are therefore hard to obtain. This includes calls for papers for
conferences and publications, sponsorships that can also be accessed by Eastern
European scientists, as well as information about Western communication forums.
The structured form serves not only the quick orientation but also the
systematic spread of this information service in social science institutes and
libraries. We call upon all institutions to actively participate in this new
e-mail service and provide us with their own relevant information so that they
can be further distributed through the e-mail list. Please send your information
to sucker@berlin.iz-soz.de or schleinstein@berlin.iz-soz.de.
You can subscribe to the Mailing Service Eastern Europe - Social Science News
by contacting mseess_news@berlin.iz-soz.de
re: "subscribe".
The editorial staff wishes you a Merry Christmas and a successful New Year.
