Automatic Indexing Methods

Using various methods, databases, catalogues and subject-specific guides are being indexed for improved and faster retrieval of information. New methods for automated and/or semi-automated indexing are scientifically guided, tested and optimized for application to social science documents in support of the intellectual indexing thus far employed by GESIS. The basis is comprised of two important domain-specific indexing instruments developed by GESIS, the social science thesaurus and classification. Free indexing by users (social tagging) is being tried as a further indexing method in the SocioWiki resources guide project.
