The European Centre houses the German part of the International Social
Survey Programme; three work packages for the Central Coordinating Team of
the European Social Survey (Contract Monitoring, Sampling,
Translation and Assessment) and, as the unit principally involved in
conducting surveys, the German General Social Survey (ALLBUS).
Shorter-term
projects housed at the Centre include the German part of a five-country
study Pioneur, a study investigating why people migrate within the EC;
the German part of the new 15-country international project on Stigma
and Global Health, funded by the Fogarty International Center of the US
Institutes of Health; and a research project into oral translation in
telephone surveys (OTTS) in collaboration with the Swiss Data Archive.
The
Centre also co-ordinates the activities of the International Workshop on
Comparative Survey Design and Implementation (CSDI: www.csdi-workshop.org).
Centre
staff provided consultation services over an extended period to
the Survey on Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE: www.share-project.org).
