Project description:
GESIS-IZ produces a large number of documentations on specific topics which contain selected descriptions from the SOLIS and SOFIS databases structured by theme. Included therein are the periodically published volumes in the series
"Social Science Specialized Information Service (SoFid)" as well as the volumes of the FOKUS-series on current themes.
The traditional production process for these documentations from the retrieval of the relevant themes up to submission of camera ready printouts used to be very complex, requiring extensive coordination between the persons involved. In 1995 ways to streamline this labor intensive process were considered.
This culminated in the development of the COGET program. COGET allows a theme-specific attribution of the documents retrieved on certain topics to the thematic classification of the volumes. After this theme-specific attribution with COGET is completed the results may be directly stored as HTML or RTF-files and may be published ad-hoc. Alternatively, the results may also be further utilized with data processing or typesetting programs. The new software was easily integrated as an independent module into the otherwise unchanged work procedures and has been employed for production since September 1996.
COGET is being continuously advanced.
