Online selection and processing of data from the German Bibliography -
DEUBIB
Project leader: Marcus Schommler
Project description:
For the acquisition of monographs GESIS-IZ literature documentation relies on the new publications listed in the German National Bibliography of the National Library of
Germany (Deutschen Bibliothek). Until 1996 selections were made from the weekly printed list. Potentially relevant publications were marked and ordered by the in-house library after being checked for duplicates; a monotonous and time consuming activity.
The procedure included, for instance, examining if perhaps the selected works had already been recorded, locating them and filling out borrowing slips for the university or state library of Bonn
(Universitäts-
und Landesbibliothek Bonn).
The German National Bibliography has been available electronically since 1996 which lead to the idea of supporting and simplifying all work procedures based on this data by using an application
program. The software DEUBIB which was developed for this comprises the following
functions:
-
Reading in of the weekly deliveries from the German National Bibliography (disk version) into a database
-
Selection of monographs considered for documentation. Relevant works are selected via mouse click
- Statistics: Information is available on the overall number of documents as well as on the selected number of documents classified by subject. To implement further working procedures into the application the statistics will be extended by data on the ordering procedure
-
Printing selected titles: The selected titles may be printed out in list form or directly on borrowing slips of the ULB Bonn
-
Book location search: The library locations of selected monographs are ascertained from the internet server of the university library center North Rhine-Westphalia
(Hochschulbibliothekszentrums
NRW).
