Content organization of the Social Science Virtual Library (InhalteViBSoz)
Staff: Annemarie Nase, Monika Zimmer
Project leader: Prof. Dr. Jürgen
Krause
Contact: Zimmer, Monika
Project description:
Virtual scientific libraries should offer direct Internet access to subject-specific, scientifically relevant information and documents. It is the content of the literature and research references, texts, materials, data, facts, links lists, etc. relevant to the specific discipline which determines whether the information is included and not the product type or the information medium. Continuous development of such a comprehensive information service cannot be accomplished by a single institution alone. Based on follow-up usage of instruments developed in and provided by the ViBSoz and DBClear projects, four competent and experienced libraries and service providers have, therefore, joined together in an effort to constitute the Social Science Virtual Library. Together they are committed to creating and maintaining an attractive and valuable service package for different user groups once initial startup financing has been provided by the
DFG.
As with other virtual scientific libraries, startup financing for this project is to be used to screen, compile, provide, and update information on the social science community and their activities (such as, for instance, social science projects, teaching and research institutions, science journals, congresses and conferences).
One major service emphasis is to put together thematic compilations on certain subjects for different target groups, thereby opening up new dynamic ways for the presentation and dissemination of knowledge, the selection of internet sources, aggregation and linkage of information as well as the incorporating of experts and users into the exchange process.
