Project description:

GESIS-IZ and the German National Library of Economics (ZBW) in Kiel conduct the cooperative project "vascoda – Comprehensive Structures and Tasks of the Subject Portals" on the homogenisation of the subject portals which are integrated in the portal for academic information vascoda. GESIS-IZ undertakes the task of developing a compatible design and handling concept for the subject portals and the vascoda portal with a strong recognition effect for the users.

vascoda aims to provide user-friendly and transparent access to subject information. The main feature is an integrated search in individual subject portals provided by virtual libraries and information networks. At the moment, vascoda offers access to more than 30 partly very heterogeneous subject portals.

The aim of this project is to homogenise the functional and user-related aspects of the subject portals. An intensified knowledge transfer between all associated institutions will help to achieve this aim (subproject of the ZBW). The harmonised design and structure of the subject portals in terms of software ergonomics and aesthetics as well as a consistent overall information architecture will assist the users to switch between the different subject portals and vascoda (subproject of GESIS-IZ).
