As a provider of Social Science research information and data GESIS aims to deliver its information collections via new technical standards and interfaces. According to the movement of Linked Open Data the GESIS department "Knowledge Technologies for the Social Sciences" (WTS) develops and provides services to offer Social Science content and data to the Web of Data for accessing, sharing and re-using. Additionally, this project focuses on the development of real-life use cases for Linked Data in the Social Sciences, whether e.g. typical working tasks of scientists regarding the use of research data or the answering of complex research questions can be simplified and enhanced.

As part of the project the Thesaurus for the Social Sciences (TheSoz) has been published in SKOS format as part of the Linked Data Cloud and contains currently links to the Thesaurus for Economics (STW) of the ZBW and the Agricultural Thesaurus of FAO (AGROVOC). The SKOS version is available here.

The LOD Pilot Application aims to develop a real-world scenario for the use of Linked Open Data in the Social Sciences in cooperation with data providers (GESIS, IT.NRW) and technology experts (KIT, WeST). A prototype implementation can be found at http://lod.gesis.org/gesis-lod-pilot/ (Note: mostly in German language yet).
