Data Historical Studies

Historical studies contain studies with micro data (e.g. characteristics of persons, derived from various archival sources as for example birth and death records of church books) as well as studies with macro data (i.e. aggregate data, as for example election results or socio-economic characteristics related to a space unit). The study collection includes studies with different data formats (Access- and MySQL-Data bases, xls files, spss files, etc.).

Our key offer is the online-database histat, containing studies with time series for the download.

The consultancy of researchers in the selection of sources, the collection of data and the processing of data is an important part of our service.

Data Access

Terms of Use

Data of historical studies are provided on the basis of the user regulations of the GESIS-Data Archive for the Social Sciences.

Bibliographic Citation of Historical Study Data

The initiator as well as the origin of the data must be cited, if you use the data for an own publication. Our recommendation is either to use the indication of the source you find in histat or to use the appropriate DOI that refers to the description in the Data Holding Catalogue. In parentheses there is the year of the publication of the book or article. The year of data processing and data provision is written in brackets.
