Text and content analysis

GESIS advises researchers on the coding and analysis of open-ended questions and other textual data in the social sciences. Both qualitative and quantitative text and content analysis are covered either with or without computer support.

Main topics are:

  • Open-ended questions
  • Content analysis
  • Development of classification and coding schemes
  • Definition of content analytical dictionaries
  • Automatic coding
  • Use of Software in qualitative and quantitative content analysis
  • Reliability and validity
  • Other text analysis approaches (for example, co-occurrence analysis or text mining)

For many years and as part of its consultation and service activities GESIS has been offering a program for automatic coding based on a user-developed content analytical dictionary (TEXTPACK).
