European Election Studies (EES)
1989 and 1994
On occasion of European Elections the Eurobarometer regularly included questions on voting behaviour an related items, especially comprehensive in the context of the 1989 and 1994 eletions. In these two cases the European Election Study Research Group, as co-responsible investigator, produced harmonized and cumulative data sets which are archived and distributed by GESIS Data Archive.
The special release of data set(s) and codebook for the European Election Study 1994 (ZA2865) essentially consists of a survey conducted immediately after the European Parliament election of June 1994 in the framework of Eurobarometer 41.1 and a number of pertinent variables from the three related Eurobarometer waves conducted before and after the elections.
As a consequence the cumulative data set offers wide opportunities for comparative and longitudinal analyses of voter behaviour and voter orientations. Longitudinal analysis are particularly supported by the fact that the 1994 study contents are partially overlapping with those of the European Election Study 1989 (ZA 2320), which was originally stored at the Steinmetz Archive in Amsterdam (DANS-Steinmetzarchiev).

1999 ff.
Starting with the 1999 elections, the European Election Studies series is continued in a separate venture undertaken by the European Election Study Research Group. Nevertheless a large number of questions are identical to those used in the 1989 and 1994 studies, thus still permitting longitudinal comparisons. The Eurobarometer surveys or survey modules on European Elections 1999 ff. are conducted under exclusive responsibility of the European Commission.
