The EVS data are provided as single waves as well as integrated in pooled datasets comprising beside the European also the World Values Surveys. The following information will assist users to get access to both, the

• Study overview provides information and documentation on the single waves by study profiles.
• The Data Catalogue contains searchable study descriptions for the data.
• ZACAT (Online Study Catalogue) provides the complete data and documentation holdings for the three EVS waves.
  • Usage of ZACAT and the download of data and documentation is free of charge.
  • Data analysis and data downloads are available after registration.
  • The data are provided as SPSS portable files (*.por) and in further file formats.
  • The following documents are provided as printable PDF files
    • Basic field questionnaires (in English)
    • National questionnaires (in original language)
    • Additional reports for the 3rd wave containing the original language documentation of the national data sets.
  • Comparison of question wordings is supported in ZACAT
    • The documentation of the integrated dataset of the 3rd wave allows for comparison of the question wordings in all used languages. The documentation of the national datasets allows for comparison of the questions in one or more languages fielded in the corresponding country.
    • Additionally, it is possible to compare wordings of functional equivalent questions from the master questionnaires of the three waves. A link list is available in the integrated datasets for each variable used in more than one wave.
    • Special reports are produced containing the documentation of the national questionnaires respectively the master questionnaires provided for each country/language and wave.

The European and World Values Surveys

To facilitate time series analysis the data from the European and World Values Surveys carried out in 1981-84, 1980-93, 1989-1993, and 1999-2004 were harmonized and integrated into special datasets. They are being made available via different sources and online analysis tools.
