News and Errata
2009-09-07:
In case of Slovenia the values of the variables RINCOME (Respondent's income) and INCOME (Family income) are completely mixed up in the integrated file due to an error in the original data of Slovenia. Please note that RINCOME and INCOME should be changed.
The original questionnaire PDF file for the USA to be found on the first copies of the ISSP 2002 CD is the incorrect version. Please use the version offered here!
Weighting issues
V361 is a variable which holds weighting information as supplied by a number of countries. Not all countries provide such information, and not all countries designed their weights by identical criteria or even for the same purpose. Therefore, please never use weighted data without carefully studying the documentation on weighting in each country's Study Descriptions!
ISSP 2002 has two peculiarities to observe beyond that general guideline:
- In the data file distributed on CD ROM the weight variable V361 was erroneously multiplied by 100.000 when coding the file. To undo this, divide v361 by 100.000 before using it as a weight.
- Weighting 2: Unlike most other countries, the Philippines have not provided a weight that was normed to a mean of (approximately) '1' over the sample. Instead, their weight mainly serves to interpolate regional subsamples proportional to the full population size of the Philippines (estimated 46,473,919, see the Study Description for details).
