(Projects funded by the Federal Ministry of Research and Education)

Improving access and utilization of German official microdata

Please note: The following detailed information is only available in German.

Since the foundation of former ZUMA, it has been working to improve access to microdata of German official statistics. Research, in cooperation with the Federal Statistical Office and the University of Mannheim, on factual anonymization, preparation and documentation of data is a precondition for their scientific use. Thanks to the cooperation with the BMBF and the statistical agencies, microdata  from official statistics are now available for research at a moderate fee (q.v. Pilotprojekt).
On the initiative of the BMBF for improving the cooperation between science and statistics, GESIS-ZUMA has obtained additional funds for the following projects (Lüttinger et al. 2003, ZUMA-Nachrichten 52, 153-172):

    • Improvement of service, consultation and research
    • Development and preparation of Microcensuses before 1989
    • Microdata Information System - MISSY
