European System of Social Indicators (EUSI)

The European System of Social Indicators will successively be developed for the life domains listed below. It is based on a conceptual framework which distinguishes several goal dimensions of welfare development and more general dimensions of social change within each life domain. These major dimensions constitute the reference points of the indicators of each life domain.

The indicator system covers the European Union countries, Norway, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. Recently developed or updated domains cover also the new member states to some extent. For comparative purposes the United States and Japan are included, too. Time series of the indicators cover the period from the beginning of the 1980s onwards.

Indicators and comparative time-series data will be successively provided domain by domain. Till now, indicators and data are available for 7 out of 13 life domains - 'Population, Households and Families', 'Housing', 'Education and Vocational Training', 'Labour Market and Working Conditions', 'Income, Standard of Living and Consumption Patterns' 'Health' and Total Life Situation.
