Main Research Topics of the Social Indicators Research Centre: Welfare Research and Measuring Quality of Life

Major topics covered by empirical welfare research are the analysis of welfare development over time and of welfare disparities between different social groupings. Another focus are the connections between different dimensions of welfare and the possible cumulations of problems across these dimensions. In both cases the research might be carried out from an intra- or a comparative international perspective. In context of such a research approach the connections between objective and subjective components of welfare, i.e. between objective living conditions and subjectively perceived quality of life are of particular interest. In addition to that, welfare research also analyses the importance of single actors or institutions for the process of welfare production.

As a database suited to carry out that kind of research in the German context, the Welfare Survey is of particular importance.
