Main Research Topics of the Social Indicators Research Centre: Cross-national Comparisons

Internationally comparative analyses of the social structure and living conditions, of attitudes and values as well as of trends and processes of social change have been of growing importance throughout recent years. Therefore the participation in international projects is a major focus of the Social Indicators Research Centre's research.

Currently, the Social Indicators Research Centre is involved in two international research projects. The first is called "Comparative Charting of Social Change" (CCSC). It started in 1987 and compares recent social trends in industrialised societies. The second is the Changequal Network (Economic Change, Unequal Life-Chances and Quality of Life), financed by the European Commission.

The main focus of the centre's comparative research activities lies on the development of a 'European System of Social Indicators' (EUSI) and on comparative analyses of welfare and socio-structural change in Europe.
