Publications

A broad range of publications with findings of the ISSP data, but also about the study itself show the high impact of the International Social Survey Programme.

Official ISSP Bibliography

All kind of publications on ISSP data based on cross-national analysis are listed in the ISSP bibliography.

Kind request to serve the ISSP bibliography

To get an overview of the use of ISSP data, we kindly request users to inform us about publications that are based on ISSP data. In case of limited public access to your publication (e.g. conference papers), we would highly appreciate if you could send an electronic (PDF file) or printed copy of your publication to Tom Smith, the Director of the US General Social Survey at NORC, who maintains the ISSP bibliography.

Volumes on ISSP Data

All volumes on ISSP data listed below are dealing exclusively with ISSP data. Authors of the contributions analyze attitudes of citizens across nations, sometimes over a time-span of up to 30 years. Some cover a whole range of topics across the social sciences, while ISSP Data Reports focus on specific module topics. The latter are specifically designed to establish an understanding of the research value of ISSP data among social scientists on all educational levels. They present the module data and give basic information on the concepts behind them.

Module Questionnaire Development Reports

At the beginning of every survey project stands the decision for established - or the development of new suitable measurement instruments. In the ISSP each year an elected drafting group designs the module questionnaire. From now on reasoning reports on the development of these module questionnaires are going to be published and, thereby, made available for interested users.

Variable Reports

For a sophisticated and correct use of the datasets, comprehensive documentation of the data is very useful. Therefore, almost all ISSP datasets are supplemented by codebooks. A few years ago, GESIS started a new codebook series, the Variable Reports. Variable Reports provide extensive documentations of data sets on variable level with frequency distributions and cross tabulations along with information on the surveys and further national materials. Gradually, the former codebooks have been replaced by Variable Reports.
