New issue of "Research Special" has been published - "Basic Income" (27.04.2011)
The current Research Special sheds light on the ongoing discussion about basic income as it has been conducted for approximately the last decade in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The social science research projects and publications from the German speaking areas on this topic which are documented in SOFIS (Social Sciences Research Information System) and SOLIS (Social Science Literature Information System) form the basis of reflections on this discussion. Amongst the publications collected here there are also those summarizing the discussion of the topic since the second half of the 1970s. A concept of performance so broadly defined implies the question of whether there can be a performance or even unconditional basic income (in the sense of having done nothing to receive it). Or asked the other way around: If no member of society can live without doing anything for themselves, for their own interests and thereby equally also something valuable for society, wouldn’t there then as a logical consequence be the claim, of the rights of individuals to a lifelong existence securing and essentially degree of freedom for the self-unfolding of individually guaranteeing – however structured – basic income from the society for this basic activity without a formal labor contract? But just how helpful is such a broad concept of performance? Is it theoretically and practically at all doable? The publications and research projects presented here have approaches for controversial answers to these questions ready. Go to the PDF (free of charge)[more]

December Issue of "Research Special" now available - "Challenge "Terrorism" – Domestic security policy and international threat prevention" (21.07.2011)
The very real terror warning given by Germany’s Minister of the Interior Thomas de Maizière in mid-November 2010 resonated uncharacteristically loudly among the German public as well as among the published opinions of the mass media. Due to the current security threat level, federal and state preventive security precautions have been upgraded and there has been a great deal of publicity alerting citizens to maintain civil vigilance. Political commentators initially posed the question of the acute relevance of this terror warning against the background of the constantly oscillating security threat level in Germany. Ultimately, in no small measure due to the international terror attacks in New York, Madrid and London as well as against the background of failed terror plans, terrorism has long since gained a prominent position in the discourse on security policy. This is opportunity enough for us to present an updated version of last year’s Research Special on terrorism. This issue will also essentially take up various aspects of international terrorism and the corresponding security policy strategies this year as well. Go to the PDF (free of charge)[more]
