Pflegepolitik im Wandel - Long-term care policy in flux
On May 6, 2009 in Berlin; begin 9.30 – approx. 16.30
Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund (German Statutory Pension Insurance)
Ruhrstraße 2
10709 Berlin-Wilmersdorf
R 2219
The most recent long-term care insurance reform initiates new developments. Also valid here: After reform is before the reform? What is to be expected from the implementation of new starting points for long-term care policy? What remains of still outstanding reforms? In the possible search for answers one should keep in mind the manifold interests of healthcare policy, integration aid, labor market policy as well as family and gender policy.
It would be inadequate to comprehend long-term care policy as departmental or sectoral policy. As it sits directly at the focal point of sociopolitical connection of various sub-segments of social policy. This also becomes clear in international comparison. Also, what effect will the Europeanization have on long-term care policy in flux?
The lecture and discussions will address and open up debate on these questions. You are cordially invited to attend the event, there is no fee.

Innovation and creativity at universities: Annual conference of the Society for University Research (Gesellschaft für Hochschulforschung) (09.04.2009)
Innovation and creativity at universities: their significance for teaching, organization and research Annual conference of the Society for University Research 2009 (Gesellschaft für Hochschulforschung) at the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer/ DHV Speyer, 21/22.04.2009 Innovation and creativity research both deal with the emergence of the new. These two fields of research, which have both lead to distinct communities and often not related to one another, are especially relevant for research on universities, as universities represent a social arena constantly yielding something new. This mostly refers to just the content of science and its transfer into society, while the form of its delivery, like the organizational principles of the institution itself, has long been described as markedly persistent. However, here, as well, much has begun to change: new educational methods and new forms of research cooperation are being tried out, new disciplines and degrees introduced, and new directorial models established. The 4th annual conference of the Society for University Research (Gesellschaft für Hochschulforschung) offers a forum for studies dealing with the investigation of innovation and creativity and can approach the topic from the most varied perspective. The essential question is clearly, how can conditions that enable new forms of science production as well as creativity of students, scientists, educators be created at universities. Now available the March edition of Research Special! (March 27, 2009) (27.03.2009)
The March edition of Research Special is entitled Der gläserne Bürger - The Transparent Citizen - Personal Data Between Research and the Black Market and deals with the handling of personal information. Reports of new, ever more far-reaching data thefts appear unstoppable: In Fall of 2008, the Federation of German Consumer Organizations appropriated 6 million sets of data, 4 million of these with account numbers, to prove that it was relatively easy to obtain data illegally. Already in 2006 the data from more than 17 million Telekom cell phone customers was stolen. Personal information is, in the meantime, a highly sought after commodity. To stem the misuse of data the federal government has begun a new legislative initiative, which would allow future usage of personal information for advertising purposes or for marketing and opinion research only with expressed permission. While “data protectionists” approvingly celebrate, opinion researchers fear for the basis of their work. The March 2009 edition of Research Special deals with the tense relationship between information self-determination and freedom of information in the midst of which is where the issue of data protection can be found, as always. Five chapters, arranged according to topic, list current literature and research references with bibliographic info along with a short content synopsis for each. Free PDF to download[more]

Auto crisis in international comparison - Facts and assessment (23.03.2009)
Workshop; Friday April 3, 2009; As of 11 AM Apparently financial, economic and automobile crises are closely related. Overproduction, unsellable SUV’s, the collapse of car financing; but is the car, as racing-travel-limo, as we know it, truly at an end? Aren’t there definitive differences in the depth and type of crisis among the various regions of the world? These and other questions on auto-mobility will be tackled in the WZB-Workshop “Auto crisis in international comparison” („Autokrise im internationalen Vergleich“ ). There will be a podium discussion with experts from a variety of specialty areas in addition to the three speakers: Holger Bungsche (Kwansei Gakuin University, Kobe, Japan), Matthew Nagler (City University of New York, requested) and Ulrich Jürgens (WZB).
