Five decades of literature on Jürgen Habermas

- (Quelle: www.flickr.com)
GESIS takes the occasion of Jürgen Habermas’ birthday to present a compilation with references from social science literature on his oeuvre. The selection of 333 titles from five decades illustrates how unique the history of the impact of the social theorist, philosopher and public intellectual is.
This goes both for the development of the social science disciplines as well as for the discourse on political-normative self-understanding in the Federal Republic which Jürgen Habermas, with his interventions, continually re-addressed and encouraged – whether in historical dispute, in the debate on embryonic research or on the role of religion in the secular state.
The references to literature on Habermas, listed in chronologically ordered chapters, even in just the small selection which we were able to include here, depict the wave of reception created by these and other publications. They also demonstrate how, what for Habermas’ work was the central idea of a communicative rationality of theory coming into practice.
