Vacation: Recreation or commerce? (July 2008)

- (© Diddi/Photocase.com)
On the occasion of the summertime, the July issue of the monthly "Research Special" offers references of literature and research projects on the topic of holiday. It is entitled "Vacation: Recreation or commerce?" and includes references of general, theoretical and specified publications and projects which analyse the sociological aspects of holidays.
In detail, the terms "regeneration" or "holiday" are only vaguely defined and stand for different kinds of activities like sports or wellness. The most popular kind of "holiday" is exploring the world by travelling around. Tourism is a mass phenomenon and therefore always influenced by different factors: globalisation, demographical changes, economical necessities, political developments or technical innovations. Last but not least the ecological conditions play a prominent role in the business of tourism.
The current publications and research projects deal with all these mentioned aspects - the bibliographic references each with a short summary of the content are listed in this actual edition of "Research Special".
