The European Value Study (EVS) and the World Value Survey (WVS) are two large-scale, cross-national and longitudinal survey research programs. They include a large number of questions, which have been replicated in the 364 surveys both programs conducted from 1981 to 2014.
The EVS is being processed by the University of Tilburg and GESIS Dept. Data Archive for the Social Sciences in Cologne, the WVS by ASEP/JDS in Madrid. Each group, EVS and WVS, has constructed a longitudinal data file from their waves to facilitate time series analysis. The data and accompanying documentation on the longitudinal data files are provided through the GESIS Data Catalogue and the WVS website, respectively.
The trend variables and data have been harmonized using a common dictionary agreed by EVS and WVS. This allows for constructing an Integrated Values Surveys 1981-2014 data file including the four waves of the EVS (1981-2008) and the six waves of the WVS (1981-2014). The resulting file will cover surveys conducted in 113 countries/regions of the waves 1981-1984, 1989-1993, 1994-1999, 1999-2004, 2005-2009, and 2010-2014. It will consist of 1.427 variables and 506.268 cases.
Both projects agreed to provide up to date information and assistance to users, so that they can merge the longitudinal data files easily.
Information on the resulting Integrated Values Survey 1981-2014 is provided here. It covers User information, Conditions of Use, and Information on included data files.
