Scholarships available to Summer School participants

If you are a registered participant of the 7th GESIS Summer School in Survey Methodology you may apply for one of five scholarships sponsored by the European Survey Research Association (ESRA) or one of ten scholarships sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and awarded by the Center for Doctoral Studies in Social and Behavioral Sciences (CDSS), University of Mannheim.

Please note that the deadline for submitting applications for both ESRA and CDSS/DAAD scholarships has been postponed to 30 April 2018 (German time).

Scholarships by ESRA

Anybody who participates in a regular course of the 7th GESIS Summer School in Survey Methodology and is eligible for the student rate may apply for one of five available scholarships funded by the European Survey Research Association (ESRA). Participants registered only for a short course are not eligible to apply. One scholarship covers the fee for one main course (EUR 300,00). Should you apply for a scholarship funded by CDSS/DAAD (see below), you cannot apply for a scholarship funded by ESRA.

Scholarships will be transferred to the participant’s bank account upon successful participation in the Summer School (i.e., attendance of at least 80% of the course). No money will be transferred before the Summer School or in case the participant misses more than 20% of the course.

Applications will be evaluated based on academic and social criteria, in that order. To apply, please submit the following documents as one PDF file via our online application form below

  • A brief cover letter in which you explain
    • why it is important to you and your work to participate in the 7th GESIS Summer School in Survey Methodology in general and in the chosen course in particular,
    • your need for a scholarship.
  • A brief up-to-date CV including a list of publications (if applicable).

Both documents must be submitted via our online application form as one PDF file by 30 April 2018 (German time). Applicants will be informed whether their application was successful by the end of May/beginning of June at the latest.

Before applying for one of the scholarships, please register at training.gesis.org to secure a place. Registration will only become binding once GESIS has received the participation fee. Please note that you will not receive the ESRA scholarship without having paid the fee.

Should you not be granted a scholarship and wish to cancel your participation in the GESIS Summer School, you may send a cancellation request to summerschool(at)gesis(dot)org. You will receive full refund if you cancel up to 4 weeks before the course starts (see terms and conditions).

All questions may be sent to summerschool(at)gesis(dot)org.
