Call:
"I, Scientist aims to address the still persisting gender-related obstacles based on structural problems and provide an opportunity to openly address these problems on institutional and personal level, to discuss potential solutions and form alliances. Additionally, we aim to increase the visibility of women* in science and provide an opportunity for the exchange of experiences and ideas, networking, and encouragement. The conference is organized by and for students and early career scientists and we are expecting 600 participants.
I, Scientist will feature talks by established scientists as well as early career researchers, representatives from industry and other non-academic positions, who will share stories about their personal life and career paths, obstacles they faced, and how they overcame them. Additionally, gender studies scholars will present recent results of their research, and activists and advocates for systemic change will introduce their initiatives.
For the first time we will host conference sessions in 2019 and accept 1-2 contributed talks per session.
The session topics will be:
• Stereotypes and unconscious bias
• Queer in science
• Harassment and power abuse in science
• Mental health in academia
Would you like to share your story in one of these sessions? Would you like to present your research on one of these topics?
Then please send us a short description of yourself and what you are planning to present (max. 300 words) via email to
call@iscientist.de by 18 February, 2019.
Talks may address personal experiences, research results, or any aspect you feel is relevant and important to share with students and scientists. All sessions will be plenary sessions and include 2-3 invited talks each. Talks are scheduled to take 15 min each plus a moderated discussion with all speakers at the end of each session.
