This interdisciplinary U4 Summer School in Gender Studies for PhD and Advanced MA students is organized by the working group on Gender within the U4 network. U4 is a strategic partnership between Ghent University (BE), the University of Göttingen (DE), the University of Groningen (NL), and Uppsala University (SE). It is based on well-established, previously existing, bilateral agreements between the partner universities.
Staff members in education and research in Gender Studies from the four institutions, together with other invited scholars, will interact with students from the U4 universities. The Summer School will be organized as an intensive 6-days program taking place at 15th – 20th August 2016 at University of Göttingen, Germany.
The summer school aims to attract a limited number of students (5 from each partner institution) in order to maximize in-depth discussions, scholarly exchange and networking within the context of contemporary Gender Studies in Europe. The selection aims at creating a group of students with various disciplinary backgrounds and using different approaches. As such, it wants to develop intensive and stimulating interdisciplinary discussions and exchange among students.
Each day is structured around a particular area, including a key-note lecture, group discussion, PhD project presentations and master classes:
- Close relations: Kinship/Family/Friendship/Care
- Postcolonialism/Transnationalism/Migration
- Religion/Spirituality/Secularism
- Sex/Sexualities/Bodies/Embodiment
