(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "In addition to providing information, picture books have a great influence on language learning and the development of cognitive skills. They thus make an important contribution to children's culturalization process, and as a conduit of social discourses they transport ideas of gender and men's and women's (a)typical behaviour. Using data from 6,117 characters in 133 picture books which are currently being read in child day care facilities, the article examines the following questions: What is the binary gender distribution in picture books? Are gender stereotypes reproduced or are they softened? Do picture books add to the heteronormative dualism of men and women?" (author's abstract)

Inhalt: This article looks at the phenomenon of neo-feminism from a social psychological point of view and relates the subject to Charlotte Roche, the author of Feuchtgebiete. Based on Roche‘s thesis that overcoming the emotion disgust might liberate female sexuality, the article traces the role of the basic emotion disgust in the adolescent development of women. In the end, the article offers the reader a new interpretation of neo-feminism.
Unbewusstes Diskriminieren - Sozialpsychologische Effekte und mögliche Lösungsansätze

Vollmer, Lina

Titelübersetzung:The Dark at the dark continent - aggression, sadism and atrocity: blank spaces in the theoretical construct 'female identity'
Autor/in:
Hannemann, Isabelle
Inhalt: The article discusses the psychoanalytic theory of perversion to approache a model of the 'female identitiy'. Therefore the author links for instance the Freudian theory of primary development (which usually refers to the male subject), Melanie Kleins concept of "projective identification", some ideas of perception and introduces her theory of "phalic preformation".

Inhalt: "The article provides an example of psycho-societal analysis of work related learning. Initially a conceptual framework of learning and life experience is established drawing on Alfred Lorenzer and Oskar Negt, and the interactional development of psychoanalysis. A case of learning experience from research into a retraining program for unskilled workers, exposing a very conflictual subjective experience of a traineeship, is presented and commented. The worker's experience is interpreted focusing on the gender aspects of the conflicts, seeing the learning process in the context of a work identity process, which is related to a career shift enforced by labor market transition requiring male workers to retrain for a social work profession which used to be female, and more widely to a reconfiguration of the societal relation between work and gender. The final section discusses the methodological framework for analyzing learning processes by means of interpreting language use. The notion of language game connects the level of unconscious social engagements and level of formal learning and knowledge, and the opportunity for a deeper understanding of professional learning and identity is indicated by reference to one more example."

Autor/in:
Dargnies, Marie-Pierre
Quelle: WZB-Mitteilungen, (2011) 132, S 15-17
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "When having to decide whether to enter an individual tournament or to stay out, men are more likely than women to go for the competitive option. This however is not the case when the competition is team-based. In team-based competitions, men are more prone to shy away from competition as they do not want to let a less competent team mate take advantage of them." (author's abstract)
The nature and prevalence of bullying among boys and girls in Croatian care institutions: a descriptive analysis of children's homes and correctional homes
Autor/in:
Sekol, Ivana; Farrington, David P.

Inhalt: "No research to date has established reliable estimates of bullying behaviour in Croatian care institutions. Drawing upon conceptual and methodological conclusions from the prison-based research in the UK, the present study aimed to explore the nature and extent of indirect and direct bullying in a national sample of boys and girls from Croatian residential care facilities. The study also aimed to assess whether there were gender differences in the frequency and types of bullying as well as whether bullying was more prevalent and serious in Correctional Homes as opposed to in Children’s Homes. The sample consisted of 601 young people aged 11 – 21 from
22 residential institutions in Croatia. Data was collected using an anonymous self-reported questionnaire. Residents were classified as bullies or victims if they reported at least one behaviour indicative of bullying others or being bullied two or three times a month or more often. With this defi nition, approximately three quarters of residents in both Children’s Homes and Correctional Homes were involved in bullying either as victims (66.8% and 56.3% respectively) or as bullies (45.9% and 50.2% respectively). Indirect victimisation was more prevalent in Children’s Homes. In both samples, girls were signifi cantly more likely than boys to be involved
in indirect bullying either as victims or as perpetrators. In Correctional Homes, boys were signifi cantly more likely than girls to bully directly. Although descriptive in nature, this study is the fi rst to offer a comprehensive insight into bullying behaviour in Croatian
residential care. As such, it should serve as a basis for future research." [author's abstract]
