Inhalt: The issue of gender justice has drawn the attention of gender scholars as does gender equality a justice or civilization. Because of this, the paper examined women and gender equality justice or civilization. In discussing these gender issues, several documents, reports, newspapers, magazines, archives, articles, journals, among others, were systematically reviewed to support the argument. Two theories were used in supporting the argument. These are Islamic Feminist and Liberal Feminist theories. The assumptions of these theories centered on gender equality and gender justice in society. The study found that gender equality is not civilization but justice. This is of the fact that both men and women are born equal and need equal justice for the development of the nation. The paper recommended that men and women should be given equal opportunity in all aspects of life in order to ensure gender justice. Parents and religious leaders should adhere to the principles of gender equality for the betterment of society.

Inhalt: "Nearly for half a century women's advancement in the workplace has been in a debate. Women’s under-represented in higher education institutions and universities across the globe, and especially in the most powerful or influential posts, is well established. Despite gender equality commitments and women's educational attainment, still, they are underrepresented. Regions and countries may vary in term of culture, achievements and development, but barriers for women's representation in academia are surprisingly similar in many regions. It is found that there are several barriers which women might be experiencing in academia ranging from personal, organizational to societal." (author's abstract)

Quelle: Journal of Liberty and International Affairs, 1 (2016) 3, S 20-29
Inhalt: Discrimination against women based on the fact that they are women is a deeply rooted practice in all societies. However, the level of discrimination varies greatly with the level of development of the given society and strongly influences and vice versa it is influenced by the status of women in a given society. Addressing this gender-based discrimination is a difficult task because it is closely linked to the concept of equality, and state’s action and inactions. The article establishes that the States parties’ obligation is to ensure that there is no direct or indirect discrimination against women in their laws, sanctions, and other remedies and those women are protected against discrimination in the public, as well as, in the private spheres.

Quelle: Social Inclusion, 2 (2014) 1
Inhalt: Tolerance and equality are widespread norms in the official policy of many European countries. The educational system is an arena which even more than others is meant to foster equal opportunities by giving individuals the opportunity to strive for social mobility through their educational performance. Despite this, young people from ethnic minority backgrounds experience different forms of stigmatization in school and higher education, ranging from feeling marked as different to experiencing more explicit racism. This article analyses young people's coping strategies in order to combat or avoid such stigmatization. We will analyse the possible reasons why young people choose a particular strategy in a given situation, how successful that choice is, and changes in their choice of strategies over time. We will discuss how earlier experiences of support, encouragement and respect (or the lack there of) inform the extent to which young people choose more approaching than avoiding strategies as a response to perceived ethnic stigmatisation in the educational setting. The empirical basis of the article is a sample of 50 biographical interviews with young people of ethnic minority backgrounds living in Norway.
Titelübersetzung:Appointing women professors: gender-equality appointment procedures and their judicial review
Autor/in:
Junghans, Lea
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Non-gender-equality appointment procedures are unlawful. If women have no or less chance of being given a professorship than men, then that is not only an expression of the climate of gender discrimination within the university system, it also becomes a legal issue. Some court decisions concerning the lawfulness of such appointment procedures are prime examples of procedural errors that place women academics at a disadvantage. Although women have successfully relied on article 33 para. 2 of the Basic Law (Grundgesetz), this provision has not been taken seriously in the discussion of the gender-equality appointments of professors. The binding nature of job profiles that have come up in court cases raises questions about how to deal with flawed calls for applications." (author's abstract)

Quelle: WZB-Mitteilungen, (2011) H. 133, S. 34-38
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Highly qualified women often face career disadvantages after the birth of their children. For women in academia, the balance between professional and family duties cannot be taken for granted either. In addition to other factors, the private sphere does play an important role in women's career prospects. Many female academics expect their partners to help with the children. However, women still maintain primary responsibility for children and as a result their academic careers often suffer." (author's abstract)

Quelle: SWS-Rundschau, 50 (2010) 2, S 207-227
(Autorenreferat)
Inhalt: "Since the accession of Austria to the European Union in 1995, rural development policies have become increasingly important, both in political and in financial aspects. In the current program period (2007-2013), 8 billion Euro will be spent on rural policy measures in Austria. This article analyzes, to which extent rural development policy and its instruments have the potential of transforming the gender-relations in favor of more equality. Considering the strategy of 'gender mainstreaming', interested in implementing gender equality in all political concepts and measures of the European Union, it will be discussed, how comprehensively this strategy has been realized in the rural development policies of Austria and which impacts it had and possibly will have for the progressive promotion of gender-relations in the rural areas."
