Inhalt: The playbook consists of guidance, good practices and interactive visual boards. Community managers with sponsors, core groups and members can work
together on these boards by following the step-by-step guidance and questions posed in this playbook. It covers eight success facets that allow you to develop,
engage and empower your community at every stage of its journey.
The playbook provides you with the tools and processes to create your community roadmap. These tools and processes are based on in-depth and interactive
explorations of eight community success facets:
1. vision – what is your community raison d’être, what are the goals it aspires to achieve and what are the corresponding SMART objectives?
2. governance – how do you work together, and with whom and how do you take decisions?
3. leadership – how will you ensure strong leadership participation by both sponsors and core groups?
4. convening–what kind of convening opportunities work for your community?
5. collaboration and cooperation–how do you co-create and coordinate different cooperation and collaboration processes to deliver concrete community knowledge assets/artefacts?
6. community management–how do you facilitate dynamic, hybrid and (a) synchronous community interactions?
7. user experience–how do you ensure a member-centric community experience while delivering on the tasks set and supporting members’ needs?
8. measurement–how do you understand and measure community vitality and what can you learn from it?

This report on “Gender Equality Policies in Public Research” is based on a survey among the members of the Helsinki Group, the Commission’s advisory group on gender, research and innovation. It gives a detailed analysis of the current state-of-play of EU Member States’ and associated countries’ initiatives for promoting gender equality in research and innovation. It comes at a critical review point along the path towards a fully operational European Research Area (ERA) and provides a timely insight for the forthcoming ERA Progress Report 2014

Inhalt: "The 'Encouragement to Advance' project was concurrently both quantitatively and qualitatively evaluated with the aim of ensuring quality as well as for substantiating how it was conducted. The author gives a detailed presentation and interpretation of the evaluation design, method and quantitative results. One of the positive results was that approximately 90% of the participants stated that they would recommend seminars of this kind to female colleagues in similar situations. Continuation and further development of the seminar concept while tailoring it to the appointment procedures in more EU countries could have positive effects on greater participation of women scientists in the European research landscape and for realizing the goals of the Lisbon Treaty." Inhalt: The Gender and Excellence expert group was set up to provide recommendations on the improvement of transparency in the procedures used in selection committees for the award of grants and fellowships and in access to research funding in general. (...) The expert group has not found a large and systematic gender imbalance in terms of success rates in research funding in the funding systems studied, although a few exceptions exist. However, there is a clear difference in application behaviour: women are less likely to apply for funding than men, and this needs further study.
An overview of the national situations in terms of esearch landscape and gender settings is annexed to the report. The full national reports have been posted on the Science in Society web portal so that the work put into this analysis is made available to all nterested parties for both policy-making and further study. This report is the first collection and comparison of its kind, and as such, it opens up new grounds for further research and in-depth analysis while calling for better and more systematic data collection."

Inhalt: Der Autor untersucht in seiner Evaluationsstudie die Ziele und die Umsetzung der bildungspolitischen Aktivitäten des SOKRATES-Programms an den europäischen Hochschulen. Seine Ausführungen beziehen sich unter anderem auf die Finanzierung und Förderung der Bildungsmaßnahmen, die Verwaltung des SOKRATES-Programms und die Information über die ergriffenen Aktivitäten. Er stellt insgesamt fest, dass die jüngste Politik der Stärkung von Teilprogrammen die Identifikation der Begünstigten auf wertvolle Weise unterstützt, während die Aufgabe von SOKRATES unverändert darin besteht, Koordination und Kooperation einzufordern, um die Bedeutung europäischer bildungspolitischer Aktivitäten zu unterstreichen. SOKRATES umfasst vor allem eine Unterstützung für "Massenaktivitäten", für die Bildungsmobilität und für ambitionierte Projekte im Bereich pädagogischer Entwicklung und Innovation. Die Notwendigkeit, beide Projekttypen zu unterstützen, lässt sich zwar nicht bestreiten, aber letzterer kann nach Meinung des Autors hinsichtlich Kreativität und Vielfalt von einer flexiblen Vergabepolitik profitieren, die eine strikte "Top-down"-Steuerung vermeidet. Die Kommission könnte zur Qualität und Relevanz des Förderungsprogramms beitragen, wenn eine akzeptable Politik der Schwerpunktsetzung gefunden wird. (ICI)
