The experiences of non-binary people in academic professions remain largely unexplored. Due to the lack of evidence, introducing inclusive diversity management measures in universities is challenging. In their article, co-authors Anne Laure Humbert, Charikleia Tzanakou, Sofia Strid, and Anke Lipinsky show that non-binary people feel excluded and insecure in the workplace more often than other genders and that they are more frequently confronted with psychological violence and sexual harassment.
The findings underscore the need to integrate considerations of gender-based violence into diversity management measures and to break down binary gender norms in order to ensure integration and safety in the workplace. By promoting research on diversity, equality, and inclusion, this article offers actionable insights for human resource professionals.
