Key findings about Gender Equality Plans (GEP) and Inclusiveness in the European Research Area published

Categories: CEWS Aktuell

Mazlum Karataş, Andrea Löther, and Lena Weber from the CEWS team published key findings about gender equality plans (GEP) in the open-access journal Social Inclusion.

According to their data, 41% of the investigated organizations (N=6,474) have a GEP in the European Research Area. Private companies are less likely to have a GEP (6%) in comparison to research organizations and higher education institutions. As an approach, intersectionality (14%) is adopted by organizations less often compared to diversity (80%) and inclusion (76%) in the analyzed GEPs (N=816).

Research conducted for this publication is part of the INSPIRE project, which receives funding under the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program under grant agreement No 101058537. Data collection was a unique mixed‐method study that combines online survey data (N=270) and web‐scraping data (N=6,475).

The authors recommend that policymakers set incentives for private companies to develop gender equality plans as well and call for further support for intersectional and inclusive approaches of GEPs in research-performing organizations (RPOs).
